AAUW empowers women and girls through advocacy, education, philanthropy, and research. Our non-profit organization has more than 170,000 members nationwide and supports 1,000 local branches and 800 college/university partners. AAUW has been empowering women since 1881. For more than 130 years, we have worked together as a national grassroots organization to improve the lives of millions of women and their families.
Since 1952 the AAUW Plymouth-Canton branch has been a viable and energetic organization in this community. Members are committed to achieving equity for women and their families. We are focused on educating our members about the importance of this goal. In addition, we are involved in fund raising to support college/university scholarships for local women. For the past fifty-four years, our major effort has been providing live drama for children. The branch “recycles” a series of fairy tales, such as Cinderella and Peter Pan, and presents an annual production at the Garden City High School Auditorium. Members are involved in acting, directing, making costumes, and building sets. Not only are we providing a service to the community but we are also establishing cohesion and camaraderie within our branch. Other fund raisers have included book sales and Trivia Night.
